FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

A few things prospective clients usually want to know before reaching out.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent is a tax professional credentialed at the federal level, with a focus specifically on taxation. You can read more about what an Enrolled Agent is on the National Association of Enrolled Agents website. Lagniappe Tax Group is a tax practice — not a CPA firm or accounting firm.

What kind of returns do you prepare?

The firm prepares individual federal Form 1040 returns. State income tax returns are accepted only on a case-by-case basis. S corporation, C corporation, and partnership returns are not currently prepared. Some sole proprietors filing Schedule C as part of Form 1040 may be accepted depending on complexity and overall fit.

Do I have to be a wealth advisory client?

No. The practice was created in part so advisory clients could have tax work coordinated with an advisor who already knows their financial picture, but select standalone tax clients are welcome.

Why is the practice selective?

This is intentionally not a high-volume operation. Every prospective client completes an initial consultation, and a prior-year tax return must be securely uploaded beforehand so the firm can evaluate complexity, scope, and overall fit.

Do you handle IRS notices, back taxes, or representation?

No. Tax controversy work, IRS or state representation, tax debt resolution, and catching up on multiple years of unfiled returns are outside the scope of the practice.

How do I send my documents?

Tax documents, including the prior-year return required before an initial consultation, are securely uploaded through the client portal. Please do not email tax returns or other sensitive documents. Existing clients can sign in from the Client Portal page.

What are the service levels?

Preparation covers individual Form 1040 preparation and filing. Planning includes everything in Preparation, plus forward-looking projections, proactive tax planning, a post-filing review meeting, and authorized coordination with your financial advisor or another professional when appropriate. Planning services are not automatically included with basic return preparation. Fees are quoted after the initial consultation based on your situation, complexity, and selected service level.

What does “Lagniappe” mean?

Lagniappe is a Louisiana term meaning “a little something extra.” With Cajun roots, the name reflects a simple philosophy: provide thoughtful, personal service and go a little beyond what is expected.

When should I reach out?

Earlier is better, especially if planning questions are part of the picture. Availability each season is limited.
